There aren’t many names more synonymous with New York bodybuilding than the Dominican Dominator, Victor Martinez. Martinez has been one of the most popular athletes in the sport for over a decade, and despite battling his way through a series of hurdles that would’ve crippled lesser men, at nearly forty years old Victor is coming off another tremendous season, without showing signs of slowing down anytime soon.
Last year Victor placed in the top ten at both the Arnold Classic and the Mr. Olympia in the same year, for an astonishing 8th time in his career. From what we’ve seen from Victor already this season it looks like he’s well on his way to making trip number nine to the Olympia stage.
Though he hasn’t made any official announcement, signs point to Victor throwing his hat into the ring at the New York Pro, which is now less than two months away. Last weekend at the NPC Utah Victor took the stage as the featured guest poser looking every bit the part of a bodybuilder on his way to doing some serious damage at one of the sport’s premier contests.
Victor isn’t quite the breath taking force that he once was in the mid 2000’s Victor still has to be considered amongst the most dangerous athletes in the sport. With rising superstar and fellow New York native Juan Morel as the odds on pre-show favorite, it’ll be interesting to see if the old dog still has a few tricks up his sleeve, or if we’ll look back and remember this show as the time when the Martinez passed the torch onto the next generation.
